The Castle – 2011

Posted on Updated on

Night reviewed: Wednesday

The Castle was a pleasant surprise having not visited this pub for a long time. It had a nice buzz, with plenty of customers, with a nice relaxed atmosphere and a mix of different clientele. From our visit, it looks like it might be a popular spot for workers to call in on their way home. The décor was good, recently refurbished, but retaining the feel of a proper pub. However, the toilets could only be classed as functional, and were clearly an afterthought.

There was a decent selection of ales on offer – Deuchars IPA, Shepherd Neame Bombardier, Theakstons Best Bitter, Theakstons Dark Mild and Theakstons Old Peculiar all on draught. The Deuchars IPA we sampled could have been better though.

There were signs indicating that they welcomed you bringing in takeaway food, which is a great idea for pubs which don’t serve their own grub.
